Woman Carries Gun Into Springfield Courthouse

(6-26-15) Springfield, IL -  A Springfield woman is accused of carrying a gun past security in the Sangamon County courthouse early this week. 
The incident happened Monday.  A Sheriff's Department official says Lakeshia Stapleton had the gun in her purse while the security officer working the x-ray machine was distracted.  

The weapon was not noticed until the woman made it to the elevator.  She was arrested on the fourth floor and has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and defacing a firearm.  The serial numbers on the gun had been scratched off.  

Stapleton is free on bond.
